How to measure area of indigenous/low water use plant species

Measure the nominated area of garden/lawn where indigenous/low water use plant species are present, or to be established.

DO NOT include any areas that contain a mix of indigenous/low water use plants and higher water use non-indigenous/exotic species.

Measuring indigenous/low water use plant species

For garden areas containing large existing trees, a maximum ground area of 4m²  per tree, located directly underneath the tree, can be nominated as an area of low water use.  This applies to any tree species, provided the existing trunk size of the tree is greater than 30cm diameter, measured at 1 metre above ground level.
