The BASIX for Alterations and Additions scheme will become mandatory, across NSW, on 01 October 2006.
The scheme will operate on-line and set specific requirements for building work, based on the type of project. These requirements have some flexibility and only apply to the section of the home that is being renovated.
This ensures that practical measures (e.g. insulation, glazing, shading, hot water systems and any relevant water and lighting fixtures) are included when renovation work is planned. The aim is to further reduce greenhouse gas emissions and potable water consumption, as well as improve the thermal comfort of existing homes.
BASIX for Alterations and Additions tool is now available. This scheme will be mandatory from 1 October if:
- your renovation work is valued at $100,000 or more, or
- you are installing a swimming pool (or pool and spa) with a capacity of 40,000 litres or more.
For more detailed background information, read the Fact Sheet (pdf).
Similar information is provided as a Powerpoint presentation (ppt).
A Data Input Checklist specifically for the Alterations and Additions tool will be available shortly.
The BASIX for Alterations and Additions Cost Estimate (pdf 900kb) provides a reasonable indication of the costs relating to this scheme. Seven scenarios, representing a range of typical renovation work across NSW, were analysed for cost estimates. This information will help builders to understand the cost of BASIX compliance, prior to the BASIX tool coming on-line.
