The Department of Planning monitors BASIX in order to assess the level of water and energy savings achieved. The results of this monitoring will be used to ensure the BASIX policy delivers on its sustainability objectives, as well as refine and improve BASIX, ensuring the long term success of the policy.
Verified water savings in BASIX built homes
The first BASIX Performance Monitoring study has found that BASIX dwellings are achieving the water saving target, with average measured water savings of 40.5%. The Department of Planning and Sydney Water collaborated to measure water use in 834 new BASIX-affected single dwellings, as the first stage in this study to test how BASIX homes perform once they are occupied.
The Verified Water Savings 2007-08 Fact Sheet provides more information about the study and a summary of findings.
The full report from Sydney Water, BASIX Monitoring Report Water savings for 2007-08 is available here.

2004-05 Outcomes
The BASIX 2004-2005 Outcomes (pdf) report details commitments made at development application stage for single homes in Sydney for the first year of BASIX policy operation (July 2004 to July 2005).
The BASIX 2004/05 Snapshot (pdf) is also available which summarises some of the key finding of the report.
The Department of Planning has also conducted preliminary analysis of over 500 completed single dwellings from the second year of BASIX policy operation,
when the policy was extended to cover all of NSW. The BASIX 2005/06 Snapshot (pdf) outlines the rainwater tank connections and hot water selections of this sample set.
