Energy targets for houses and units increased on 1 July 2017. Energy settings for thermal comfort, heating and cooling have also changed.

The new targets do not apply to projects already lodged with the consent authority for approval, to projects with a planning consent (DA or CDC) or those currently under construction.
Additionally, the new targets do not apply to new home buyers who have signed a building contract up to the value of $1.5 million before 31 December 2017. For more detailed information on these transitional arrangements, view the BASIX Transitional arrangements – information sheet.
For Councils and certifiers, additional information on BASIX Certificates issued under the pre-July transitional arrangements is available here .
Development on unregistered land parcels
In some cases, people enter into a building contract before the land parcel has been officially registered. If this is the case, you will still be able to generate a BASIX certificate via the website and log back in at a later date once the land has been registered.
The land will need to be registered and the BASIX certificate updated before the consent authority can issue a development approval or a complying development certificate.
