Low water use plant species

Low water use species

Low water use species means a species of vegetation identified as a 'one drop plant' under Sydney Water's Plant Selector Water Drop Rating Scheme (available at www.sydneywater.com.au), or a species of vegetation which the local council for that area deems is a low water use species in that area. These can include Indigenous species that are suited to the environment and climatic conditions of the area.

Indigenous species

Indigenous species means a species of vegetation identified in a local council list as being indigenous to the land on which the proposed development is to be carried out (available by pdf download below), or a species of vegetation which the local council for that area deems is an indigenous species in that area.

If your LGA is not listed in the table above, you need to contact your local council for a list of low water demand and/or indigenous species which they will accept as part of a landscape plan to meet your BASIX water commitments.

You should also consider the suitability of species selected for your site in terms of soil type, exposure, shade, mature plant height, and on-going maintenance issues such as the potential impact on sewerage services. Further information is available from your local council and the Sydney Water plant selector.
